In Ireland, today is the National Famine Commemoration Day – Lá Cuimhneacháin Náisiúnta an Ghorta Mhóir. It marks a tragedy which contributed to the halving of the Irish population in the nineteenth century. Many books have been written, many arguments have been had, many films have been inspired by the events. The arguments, I think, continue.

Beyond It 
I understand there was no famine. The food that was raised was collected by the British and shipped to England. Ireland was overwhelmingly Catholic and targeted for Death, slavery and annihilation. Can you name a film depicting that?
Thanks for this – broadly, there are different historical analyses of the causes of the Famine and disputes between historians. My own view is that the Famine and consequent deaths and emigration were preventable and were due to political inaction.
